Since 1989, 30 alumni from the Leadership Lakeland Alumni Association have been recipients of the Jere Annis Award. This award was established in 1989 by this Association to honor Dr Jere Annis, one of the organizers of the Leadership Lakeland Program, past president of the Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of Leadership Lakeland classes 1 and 2. Dr. Annis, who passed away in 1989, was one of the founders of the Watson Clinic.
This year’s recipient is Tim Mitchell, executive director of Parker Street Ministries. With no financial backing, no salary, and only one board member, Tim accepted his role in 1997. He stays passionate and committed to leading an initiative to bring hope, healing, and restoration to a group of people on the verge of giving up. He’s passionately devoted to bringing them a vision and a reality of a healthy, functioning community. Tim is a visionary with a strong practical streak. Tim is a legal advocate, marriage counselor, foster parent, and role model. His job is self-defined as “we just need to be available.” Tim’s outstanding stewardship and leadership in the Lakeland Community make him the 31st recipient of this award
